I created this artwork as a meditation on what it means to become uprooted from the land where we were born, and as a reflection on the experience of migration: leaving behind traditions, rebuilding an identity in a distant place, or perhaps strengthening our roots even more when we are far away.
This piece was born from the need to explore these feelings during my own migration process to another continent — not directly from my homeland, but after having spent almost 15 years living on a different continent.
All of this leads me to wonder: could it be that sometimes, the farther we move away, the closer we become — in thought and feeling — to those things from our homeland that make us unique?
